DT's and Voicemail problem

Calling an extension from a DT terminal you do not automatically connect to voicemail for the destinations extension when there is no answer. You have to press the VMAIL button. Great feature (not) especially if using 2010 with no display. Anyone aware of anything else we can aside from creating a shortcode to leave voicemail or buying more phones with displays?.

While on the subject of phones, are Avaya going to update the 20 range? Must say they look pretty naff and only come in one colour, how boring is that!

 
although you need to press Vmail on 2030/2050 phones - this enables the caller to select camp on or call back if required the 2010 work like an ordinary pot, calls to a busy ext divert to VM as expected.
tested on a SO4,4,8 with 2.0(16) firmware
 
I think the feeling in the market is that the DT 20XX handset has reached its end of life and the way forward is with the 2420 handsets on DS units.

In our market when people seam quite happy to pay for the 2420 handsets and I all the feature development is going into the DS area.. The handsets look good and because they are used on the big D the volume of manufacture will keep the price down maybe.

I think Avaya will be releasing a range of 2420 handsets 2402, 2510 and 2420. If any one has more inside information it would be nice to hear from you.
 
This may be the case in th US because of the dominace & familiarity of the definity, In the UK the 20XX & the DT module are the dominant players in the IP offcie sceen

In over 400 sites I think we have less than 5 sites that use the DS module
 
Up until V2 release we were only selling DT’s but as of 2004 I would say all new quotes and demo's are going DS.

We have also noticed the DS performs better with phone manager you don't have the off-hook operation issues and the DSS/BLF keys behave as the users would expect unlike the DTs.

We are even looking at moving to the Intuity Audix VM interface because of the new features. I've still got to figure that interface out.

What dosnt work with the DSS keys on a 2030?
What problems with off hook operation?

I am using both feature without dificulty but that may be due to familiarity with the system that the end users do not have.
 
so can we add a DS module to an IP Office 416 which currently has a mix of DT and POT30's? I understand the DS module supports 44xx and 6400x as well as 2420? What are the differences between these handsets.
 
Yes you can ad a ds module, our dem system consists of an IP403DT & a DS16 so all handset types can be demonstrated

Issues with a 2030/50 handset andDSS keys.

To transfer a call from a DSS key on a 2030/2050 to another station that is busy you have to press hold+DSS key+Scroll then VMail to put the call into vmail
While this sounds OK a lot of users find this quit painful and most other systems you just press the DSS key once.

Offhook Operation
If you have phone manager on you PC working in conjunction with a 2030 or 2050 and you have Off Hook operation checked when you transfer a call to a DND or Busy station the Display goes blank on the 2030.

These problems don’t occur on the DS handsets

Why not create a short code that forward calls on busy or no answer to voicemail.
 
Alternate opp for dss key, if it is known that the other user is busy do not press hold, predd the dss key twice then vmail key.
I agree it is still not quite as simple as some systems

Hands free operation, it is not necessary to set the 2030 to handsfree (although pm does work better this way), I am unable to reproduece the problem with transfering calls however if you try to ring a busy ext from a handset set to off hook operation you do not get a busy tone (because phone manager shows you the status of the user before the call is made) this can sometimes cause confusion
