Having a bit of trouble with getting my PRI to work and wanted to run some questions by the forum to see if anyone could help.

BCM400 r4 latest patches

Got a brand new DTM with a PRI running into it direct from the smartjack with an RJ48C cable. I have the circuit provisioned and have been given my information from the CLEC which I have set.

I added my extension # to the BlocA access list and assigned destination code 9 to route 001 which is configured to use BlocA. When I try to access this pool I get LINES IN USE (or something like that.) I can't figure out what I'm missing...

Rather than type it all out, here is a giant picture of all my settings and other relevant information:

Telco says this is my provisioning info:

****************
23b+1d
ASEQ Hunt
NI-2
7 digits out
CNAME yes
PIC/LPIC 0893
****************

They sent a tech out yesterday to test the line and he said he was able to make an outgoing call on it and that it is working.

I'm a bit concerned about the following things:

1. Are lights on my DTM typical of normal operation?
2. Is the "Disabled By User" status typical for a working DTM?

Any feedback on what the issue could be would be GREATLY appreciated as I've exhausted my capabilities to troubleshoot the issue.

You should only have 3 green lights on your DTM, is there a yellow one on the top left? If so you are not synchronising with the CO.
What type of patch cord did you use, sometime you need a crossover T1 cable depending of the line provider.

Check your dips to see if they allign with the selected bus. Next plug a T1 loopback cable into the RJ48 and see if that yellow alarm clears. If so plug the other end of the patch cable into a loopback and see if it clears. If it does you probably need a crossover.

Thanks guys. Here's a clearer pic of my DTM front

Cable is a crossover. Just to verify I remade a new RJ48C cable tonight and did continuity testing with my fluke toner so it would seem to be good.

I don't have a loopback adapter but I'll make one and see. I did pull down the smartjack case and see the switch on the box was set for RJ48C and not RJ48S.

Is that "Disabled by user" status from the screenshots I posted in my first message a normal thing?

The yellow light is an alarm that means you DO NOT have a signal.Notice the arrow is incomming. Disable by user means it is disabled by a user and needs to be enabled to work. It is in maintenece thru the phone or in resources thru EM. If you are comming right out of a smart jack then the cable should be strait thru, if out of a CSU/ adtran- crossover.

I made my loopback cable and the error cleared.

Looks its time to pound on Windstream!

Did you enable it? Disabled by user is exactly that and it needs to be enabled.

Want to tell me how to enable it. It shows enabled in the Telephony Resources.

Also, if it's disabled how come the error clears when I pu tthe loopback cable in?

You have it enabled in resources so that's all you can do. It probably shows disabled because you have no D-channel. I wouldn't worry about it unless it still shows disabled after W-stream gets the PRI up.

OK, so everything is fixed. Just to wrap this up for posterity.

1. Problem appears to have been that I was using a PRI crossover cable rather than a straight-thru cable. Everything I read said cross-over was standard for coming out of the smartjack. Oh well.

2. "DISABLED BY USER" continues to display on my DTM's state so if anyone else stumbles across this thread and, like me, doesn't know what they're doing just know to ignore this as it isn't relevant.

3. Once my PRI started working the key change was in the "TRUNK MODULE METRICS" section of the ADMIN side of the Element Manager. The D Channel tab's LAYER 2 VTERM went from inactive to active.

4. Also, all my error lights cleared on my DTM and I had three green lights.

Onwards and upwards!
