Hello!

We have an MICS cabinet running 4.1 software with several analog trunks that we would like to add a T1 trunk to. Eventually, we plan to only be using the T1, but would like to be able to use both the analog trunks and the T1 side-by-side in the interim.

Both the main KSU cabinet as well as the single M12X0 attached to it appear to be chock-full, so I was thinking about picking up a second M12X0 and putting the DTI card in there. I understand that I would need the NT7B74AAAA version of the DTI specifically in order to use it in a trunk module instead of the core KSU.

What is unclear to me is whether new software would also be required. I understand that 6.0 or greater is needed if you want to have more than 2 DTI cards, and that normally the first 2 would go in the KSU and the 3rd would go in the first slot of a M12X0 by itself. But what if you only wanted 1 DTI card, but you wanted to use that single card off-core? In other words, is 6.0 needed for the more-than-2-DTIs part or for the DTI-off-core part, or both (either/or)? Could I get by on using a DTI off-core in 4.1 as long as it's the only DTI on the system?

Thanks!

Yes using DTI 4.1 in the core plus you would need a 6 port combo or service cartridge for the clocking and a PRI enabler.Just move the analog card to the trunk mod.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses so far! Yes, I already understood that I'll need either NTBB24 or NTBB25 in order to supply the DTI with a clock source, and yes, I also understood that if installed off-core it has to be in a M12X0 by itself and needs to be in the first slot.

To clarify, I will not be using the DTI in PRI mode, so should not need PRI enabler key.

curly, to be quite honest, this phone system is not long for this world...it will be replaced with something else as soon as our budget allows, so we're not keen on sinking any additional money into it beyond what is necessary. So unless someone has a free 7.1 (non-XC, so we can continue to use our NAM) that they're giving away, I'd prefer to stick with the software we've got. ;-)

All I'm after is an answer to the question of whether 4.1 supports a DTI off-core if it is the only DTI on the system. cook1082's answer implies that it can't and that I should pick up a second M12X0 (our current one is FULL, as is the KSU itself) and move one of the analog trunk cards to it. If I do that, will the programming for those trunks follow the line card, or will I have to re-program those trunks after the move?

Thanks again!

FYI you would need NAM 4.1 if you do upgrade KSU.

Yes he is right, only 5.0 and up can you use the 12X0 and yes you need to shift programming, only sets have set relocation.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know!
