DTE LMI Down...when configuring 2503 router, ver 12.0.

I have a Cisco 2503 router (version 12.0), we're configuring it to do virtual bridging over the serial1 interface. The T1 is live, the interface is configured and encaspulated, but the line protocol is still down and when I do a 'sho int serial1' I see 'DTE LMI down'. Anyone have any tips for how to start troubleshooting this?<br><br>The encapsulation is correct, the LMI is set...I'm lost! Thanks in advance...

If you are connected to a CSU/DSU; the clock may be set wrong on the T-1.&nbsp;&nbsp;It will still show a good connection but will not pass traffic.&nbsp;&nbsp;You can make a loopback plug for the telephone connection and see if the the line comes up in a loopback mode.&nbsp;&nbsp;If it does you could have a configuration issue or bad CSU/DSU.&nbsp;&nbsp;The channel setup could also be misconfigured since some CSS/DSU's have the capability of passing data and voice over the same T-1.&nbsp;&nbsp;Put a loopback plug in the distant end CSU/DSU and see if it comes up on a loop.&nbsp;&nbsp;If both ends come up on a loop it is probably a configuration problem with the CSU's or the routers.&nbsp;&nbsp;Hope this helps.

<br>I faced this problem, last week bringing up a new T1 line...<br><br>Call telco ( Telephone Co.) and tell them to change the LMI option ( on their FR Switch) to Probably Annex-D, or Cisco LMI ...<br>Smtimes telco does not know what to set yr LMI type ..it sh hv been defined when you ordered line. let me know<br>Also check Chl timeslot speed e.g 1-2 =128k 1-4 =256k if u hv a Frac T1.<br>Sarkis
