Hi,

We have two separate Linux server in our datacenter. One is being used as sendmail server of the organization, and the another is as DNS server.

Here is the details of the servers ..

Server -1 ( sendmail server)
===========================
$ uname -a

Linux mail.domain.com 2.6.9-5.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed Jan 5 19:30:39 EST 2005 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

$ more /etc/redhat-release

Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant)

Server - 2 ( DNS server)
========================

# uname -a

Linux DNS001.domain.com 2.4.22-1.2115.nptl #1 Wed Oct 29 15:42:51 EST 2003 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

# more /etc/redhat-release

Fedora Core release 1 (Yarrow)

I am not a Linux guy. I mostly take care of AIX boxes. I want to confirm which DST patch is required to download for this upcoming DST issue and how to load that patch into the machine. The process ( step by step). If any risk is involved? An early reply on this topic would be highly appreciated.

Thanks again ..

- Sam

Enter the shell on each server and enter this:

zdump -v /etc/localtime | grep 2007

The date it should change on should be Mar 11. If you get something else, you will need to update tzdata. You should be ok on RHEL 4 but I'm not sure about fedora core 1. However, the upgrade should be fairly simple. Fedora uses yum which works very much like rhn. Try this on the command line:

yum update tzdata

If it updates ok, run zdump again and see if that works.

Hi RhythmAce,

Here is the output from by both servers :-

Server -1 ( RHL)
================
$ /usr/sbin/zdump -v /etc/localtime | grep 2007
/etc/localtime Sun Apr 1 06:59:59 2007 UTC = Sun Apr 1 01:59:59 2007 EST isdst=0 gmtoff=-18000
/etc/localtime Sun Apr 1 07:00:00 2007 UTC = Sun Apr 1 03:00:00 2007 EDT isdst=1 gmtoff=-14400
/etc/localtime Sun Oct 28 05:59:59 2007 UTC = Sun Oct 28 01:59:59 2007 EDT isdst=1 gmtoff=-14400
/etc/localtime Sun Oct 28 06:00:00 2007 UTC = Sun Oct 28 01:00:00 2007 EST isdst=0 gmtoff=-18000

Seems I am not sure about my RHEL 4 . And this is same for fedora also.

Now what ..? Can I download the DST patch and install? How ?

- Sam

For RHEL3, According to you need tzdata-2005m which has since been superceded by tzdata-2006m-3. This should be applied when you run up2date on the server.

If the server isn't under maintenance, you could download the package from centos.org also.

For the Fedora system, I don't know the answer but fedora.org should have the package that you need.
