I have a Merlin magix system with 1 DSS 4450 hooked up to a 4424LD+. The extensions work when you press the buttons on the DSS, but the only light(green) on the DSS is the page button. The button lights stopped working after we had a phone tech come out and work on the system. He said it wasnt his fault so I have replaced the phone and DSS (including power supply) and the lights are still not coming up. Is there a way to turn this back on?

Make sure that the connectors are in the correct slot on the power supply and be sure that you use the correct cables. If you still have the power supply box there should be an install guide in it. Basically the one pair cable geos from the wall to the line port on the power supply and the two pair cable goes from the phone port on the power supply to the jack on the phone.

It is all plugged in correctly.

There's no way to unprogram the lights on a dss module. If the buttons are working when pushed as you've stated, then it has to be an issue somewhere along the line with the wiring/dss module/power/or even with the MLX20L. If the buttons don't work when pushed, the tech may have reprogrammed them to a different extension range and that's why they aren't lighting.

Are you sure it is the Page light that is lit and not the Msg button. Maybe you want to press the green light and see if you get your lights back.

You should be certain that the power is working. The power supply should be just a little warm. BTW which power supply are you using?

I believe there is a diagnostic test you can run to test your setup. You need to get the Maintenance document, the procedure is in there. It is the same one used on the Legend MLX sets, but should work on the 44xx sets. The code is *00 from SA. You can download it for free from support.avaya.com.

Telecomboy,

If you read the original post, you would see the system has a 4424LD+, not an MLX20L set.

SYQUEST -

I downloaded the maintentence manual and did the *00 and all lights, including the ones on the DSS lit up. When I hung the phone up, the DSS still doesnt work.

So, that does indicate that the equipment is communicating with the control unit. Now, just what did the technician do that was there to "work on the system"?

Post a printout of the Console and the DSS pages so we can see what is programmed there.

You know what, its been like a year since he was here and I dont know what he was here to fix. All i remember was that he never accessed the actual phone system, just messed around on the main programming phone.

But that is the thing, from the "main programming phone" lots of "things" can happen! Lets have a look see at the configuration...

What kind of cable do you use to connect to the admin port? Normal cat5 or do you need a console cable?

A "custom" cable was used to connect a 4450 to a 4424LD+.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

No, I mean do you have to connect to the actual phone system to get the config? If so, what kind of cable do you need to connect to the admin port(on the system itself)

straight through 8pin from admin port to 355af adapter to pc serial port. Install WinSPM. Run winspm.

You could also goto avayas web site and dload the feature reference for magix and search for dss. There you will learn how to check/program the extension ranges for the three pages of the dss.

So you have to have a $35 adapter just to connect to the admin port? I thought you only needed the adapter for the RS232 port?

Alright so i took the phone out of hotel mode and put it in Group Calling Supervisor mode and ONE extension is now lit up on the DSS, it is an extension that is forwarded to the main phone due to that person not being here anymore - any ideas?
