hello all,
I ran DSREPAIR on my 4.11 server while a new 6.0 server was on the net (different tree and context). Does anyone know how to revive NDS on the server without DS loaded? I cannot gain access to the server through a client. My consultant isn't returning phone calls and everyone is without access to the old apps.
Please help!

If your NetWare 6.0 server is in a different tree, then this has nothing to do with your issue as it is not even in the same tree. Servers in different trees do not communicate NDS with each other. Please can you give us some insight on what problems you are actually having with your NetWare 4.11 server eg. error messages? -----------------------------------------------------

I'm telling ya that I ran DSREPAIR on a 4.11 server. The server got rebooted and it will not come up. When I checked DSREPAIR.LOG (through edit.nlm) on it, I found NDS objects from the other 6.0 tree. Now, as far as I can tell, DS.NLM is not loaded on the 4.11 box. When I try to load it it gives me a message that ROLLCALL is not loaded. ROLLCALL doesn't have an NLM. I've tried using INSTALL to recover it, but it tells me that DS must be loaded.

Now:

Netware 4.11 Server.
DS not loaded.

Needed:
a way to load DS (or where to check to see why it isn't loading)
a way to recover the old DS database

Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appriciated by my accounting and payroll co-workers...

What you are seeing through DSREPAIR does not mean that the servers are talking to each other directly, it is basically seeing broadcasts from the other server. I repeat, this is nothing to do with your issue.

Anyway, onto your issue. ROLLCALL.NLM is a valid NLM and it would appear that you are missing it. If you have a copy of the last service pack you applied, try getting it and copying it to SYS:SYSTEM which is where it should reside. If not, download SP9 for NetWare 4.11 and get it from there. Hopefully, after replacing this NLM, DS should load and you will be back up and running. If you do get the NLM from SP9 and the server boots ok, you might be better off applying SP9 completely. -----------------------------------------------------

It was Rollcall. I put a copy of the NLM on a floppy, loaded it on the old box, then loaded DS. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the help.
