Hi. We have a site using ESS. Main site have two G450 Gateways and a System and Session manager and two PRIs, the ESS Site have one G450 (registered at main site) and Two PRIs and one. We have configure the user of both sites to register to site own session manager and use the own site PRIs. Now the site admin is complaining that Avaya phones are chocking the link between two sites and Avaya phone are consuming most of the bandwidth.
My query is that can we configure users of the ESS site to use own gateway DSPs to dialout i mean i wants to divide user between two gateways so that i may lower the traffic between the sites?

Well, DSP usage is a complicated concept, but from the most simple level, if you've got PRIs in your G450s, you know that a phone calling out a PRI needs to talk to that gateway - so make the users at the ESS site dial out the PRI local to their site.

If the ESS site's DIDs come in at the PRI at the main site, there's not much you can do for that besides maybe porting the numbers from one PRI to the other if that's possible.

Or, more bandwidth.

And do not forget to check you IP network MAP and IP Network Regions. I mean, if configured wrong the users at the ESS site can take dialtone from the main site during call setup. And you can also force internal calls between the two sites to use G729.

Thanks guys for helping. Hamburg can you please guide how can i assigned ESS users to use dialtone from ESS?? We have three network region can you please also briefly guide how to use network region. Sorry if i am asking wrong or very basic question since i am gradually learning the Avaya stuff.

Ok, I’ll try to briefly explain, lol.

The Avaya IP network-regions is a layout that should match your IT infrastructure. It’s like a blanket that should fit on top of your network. One way to set this up is ‘automatically'. So the phones get an IP address from the DHCP server, these ranges are defined in the IP network-map and this way the phones are assigned to a network-region. Within the network-region you connect a network-region to other network-regions, mostly via the WAN network-region. (often 249 in my country)

The G450’s also have a network-region assigned and by understanding the Avaya algorithms you can deside which phone takes dialtone from which gateway. I hope this is useful for you but there is a lot to be found on the Avaya support site too.

Thanks for the explanation. DO we have to change something G450 CLI or at phone level to get the dialtone from specific gateway?

No not on CLI. Just look at the media-gateway in CM. The defined network-region should be the one the phone network-region uses as DSP resource. it’s hard to explain like this, I am sorry.
