I almost feel like I'm abusing this site :) I don't have access to Mitel Tech support so this is kinda where I go when I'm stuck or I need info.

Anyway here goes again.
I have an MX controller with an AOB installed. The other day the analogue extensions died. There is nothing on the ports. I have swapped the TJF cable, replaced the 24 port patch panel, rebooted the controller, re-programmed the extensions and upgraded to ver 6. Non of what I've done are obvious ways of resolving this but I tried everything.
The trunks on the embedded ASU and AOB are fine.

As a last resort I thought that maybe the DSP (Telecom module in slot 4) might be faulty. So I replaced the DSP module. Having done this though the controller fails to boot and goes into a reboot sequence.
So there are two questions here,
1. anyone had this problem with dead analogue extensions on a MX 3300 controller and,
2. Why would the controller not boot with the new DSP module installed?
much appreciated.

Pull the AOB and look under it. My guess is you'll find a black burn mark on the underside supporting the notion that you took a shot of lightning on one of your analog (ONS) ports. It does not take a direct hit to destroy the AOB/AMB boards. A nearby strike will be more than enough to induce a damaging voltage level. A hit on only 1 line will wipe all of them. You've simply got to put surge protection (ie, gas discharge tubes) on all of the ONS ports that run across external cabling. Those analog line ports are really fragile and easily damaged. Your symptoms are classic for lightning damage (Trunks work, ONS ports dead) I would almost bet money on the problem. Seen it before. p/n 50003725 for the 3300MX

Ive got no clue why the controller won't boot witha new DSP unless you installed it wrong and haven't got it fully plugged into the motherboard.

Are the DSP modules the same for a 200ICP as the 3300 ICP? Maybe the wrong part got picked? Just grasping!

Thanks, I'll have a look at the AOB.

I doubt it being the wrong part no. Not sure if the DSP is the same for both the 3300 and 200. We don't really sell any 200ICP's here in South Africa.

Regards,
Eugene

Ya, I didn't really think it would be the wrong part, like I said... just grasping!

The DSPs, Dual Fims, IP Paging unit and embedded digital trunk modules are common between the 200 and 3300, MX platforms only. For the digital trunk module PRI and QSIG protocols are supported only on the 3300. Rackmount brackets are also identical, duhh.
