Is it possible?
I've not tinkered yet with connecting to databases using Java, but my preference is not to use DSNs, and all I've read so far indicates JDBC needs them.

Is this true?
If so, what other options does Java have for database connectivity?

You are talking about the JDBC-ODBC bridge. This is not JDBC, it is just one driver that allows the use of a ODBC driver for connectivity. Normal JDBC drivers have no concept of a DSN. BTW, you can connect using the JDBC-ODBC bridge without a DSN also.

How? (All the examples I've seen appear to use a DSN)
How about an example for DSN-less connection to a SQL Server (7/2000) database? <insert witticism here>

That is something I have been wondering as well. Does anyone have a response?
