Hey All,
Have installed a small office 4x8x4x4. I would like to install dsl into the wan port, but when I do I have no internet access. If I plug my dsl router into one of the LAN ports, I have internet access, but no contact with small office. Do I need to set up some IP routes, or a service? Any ideas would help.

The RJ45 WAN port on the front of the Small Office is treated as a separate LAN, LAN2 in the configuration.

You need to change the default IP Route to send any internet traffic to LAN2. The advantage is that you can setup and specify a firewall between LAN1 and LAN2.

If the DSL router is acting as a DHCP server (default operation on most ) & lan 2 is set as DHCP client then you should not need to add any routes but the IPO will need a reboot before it will work.#

Note: - the DHCP client side of Lan 2 did not function correctly until V2.1, but a system of this size is unlikly to be affected by the known V2.1 Bugs (Mine was fine, even with VM pro!)

I have the lan2 tab set for Nat, and dhcp client. Will I need to fill in the DNS tab, or any others? Or will they fill in automatically? I did try the ip route to no avail, and have set up lan2 tab to no avail. I am running V2.1(15).

run a monitor on the system & enable all the options in the routing tab
this should enable you to see the IP Address recieved by the IPO
DNS settings should not be necessary

A little more detail on your setup would be helpfull. Are you using standard adsl service, or do you need to do a PPPoE login? The IPO doesn't support PPPoE so you would definately need a router if so, otherwise you could go straight from the adsl modem into the WAN port.

If using a router, you should be connecting a LAN port on the router to the WAN port on the IPO, and either doing everything static or set LAN2 on the IPO to dhcp client and the router to dhcp server.

Make sure the PC's connected to the LAN ports of your IPO have the IP address of the SOE's LAN1 port set as their default gateway, and create the following IP route in the SOE:

IP: blank
mask: blank
gateway: LAN IP of your router
Dest: LAN2

We are using a cisco678 router with adsl. I do believe I am on the correct track now with the above help. I will post an update next week just incase any one is interested.

My SmallOffice 2.1(24) and now 3.0(14)is connected to aDSL.
I've programmed this:
LAN1 = DHCP server for 10 clients.
LAN2 = DHCP client with NAT and RIP1 enabled.
No default route.

Got internet access right away.
