We currently have a DSL primary and backup for a small office setup. I just priced out a managed solution with US Lec that would give us phone, long distance, internet as well as managed firewall and router for an extra $100 per month.

My question is, what do I need to do to upgrade from DSL to T1? My knowledge of networking is a little limited. We have a server running AD 2003 and 8 internal PCs, plus three road warriors. Do I need to make any IP changes on the desktop end?

I'm set on the phone end as I used to be a telco guy. But the PC and server end has me stumped. Thank you!

How are you currently connecting all the networked devices together, as well as to the DSL service? I'll assume a switch of some sort. Sounds like the carrier has the upstream interface covered with the firewall & router, but you'll probably have to make some minor changes on switch to change the internet connection to the new link.

Here's what you need to ask USLEC. Does your managed solution include managed router? If the answer is yes you're pretty much set. They will hand you off an ethernet cable which you'll plug into your exisistng network and you're on your way.

There's still some reconfiguring of stuff that will need to happen, at minimum your external IP address will most likely change. But the previous poster is right, check with the carrier, they should at least be able to tell you what needs to be changed, and might even do it for you.
