A friend and I would like to connect our two home PCs as if we are on one network (i.e. so we can do file transfers etc!!). I have a Wireless DSL Router/Modem/Firewall (Netgear) as we have 3 PCs and they have just the modem that connects them.

I guessing we could use some sort of VPN software to do this. Can someone tell me what I need to do as I've never done this and can't get it working at all.

I have a Dynamic DNS account set-up. Do they need one to?

From what I've read online it sounds easy, but I'm struggling!!

If you can only suggest software to look at, anything is a help!!

TIA

If you are content with the remote side having access to one computer on your network, it should be fairly simple using just the VPN server provided with Windows. Access to all 3 computers could be accomplished with just a bit more work.

In either case, the VPN client supplied with Windows will be fine for the remote side.

Dynamic DNS on the server side should be sufficient (and is not really a requirement, although it does make things easier).

What version of Windows is running, both on the server side and the remote side?

I believe both are WinXP Pro but the remote one could be Home.

That sounds great they only need to access 1 PC. But maybe in the future do the whole network.

What are the steps required?

cheers for that mhkwood.

I spotted something wrong with my method straight away!!

However, it still won't connect. I type the login name/password and then it says it can't connect.

Any ideas?
