I've got a stand alone RH7.1 workstation and I need to get my dsl working on it before school starts. I'll be using ssh to log into network.

How do I get dsl working? My NIC (eth0) has an IP of
192.168.1.2 assigned to it. I tried /sbin/pppoe with no luck. Also tried /usr/sbin/adsl-start still no good.

What am I missing. I use Earthlink.net as my ISP and do not have a static IP.

Thanks for any help.

What do Earthlink's instructions say (I know the instructions are going to be for Windows)? Do you pull the network settings from a DHCP server?

Not using DHCP. Thought DHCP was only useful for several PC's. The earthlink instructions require installing earthlink 5.0 software. Not an option for Linux.

Hey Chris, thanks. I did what you said and learned that I should do some research on my own before bothering else people.
The DSL works great. I found that the "default installation firewall settings (Medium) "prevented /usr/sbin/adsl-start from working. So I ran "adsl-setup" again and chose "selected firewall security = 0".

That did it.
Now I need to do research on firewalls, got any links?
