I previously had 4 PC's on my small network, suscribe to Pacbell DSL wich includes 5 static IP's. Modem was connected to hub uplink and from there to Pc's with Pacbell designated IP's. Internet worked great and fast. Now I added 3 more machines and a DSL router and set all PC's to obtain IP automatically. Now PC's are very slow on Internet.
What could I be doing wrong?. I was told that Modem with 5 Ip's is choking hub and that i need to split signal or should downgrade my service to just 1 IP. Does this make sense?. currently its wired; Modem to hub to PC's, should I use switch instead of Hub? Any other suggestions?

Bunk- I dont know who told you that the number of IPs has anything to do with your speed but it's incorrect. What each IP is doing on the net has MUCH more to do with the speed. If you have a 1 Mb DSL line and someone is downloading a 300Kps video stream, you will see an impact on everyone elses performance.

Slowness can come from a wide number of places.. many times it's the name resolution that is in dire need of help. Either a local WINS/DNS server or a real DNS server outside. For example, my DNS is supposed to come from Roadrunner.. but they filter a bunch of stuff and it's dog slow.. so I use Pacbells name servers. They are public to a degree so as long as you have the IP , use it. I also run a local DNS and WINS but then I have a few more PCs in my home office then some have in a real office :) The hub could be a bottle neck.. a switch is pretty cheap nowdays.

how do you establish a dns server with pacbell when your current dns server blocks you from connecting or a reverse lookup?

You could obtain a swithing hub instead of just a hub
