I use a lot of 1751 routers with DSL. What DSL modems have you guys found to work well with Cisco? You cant manually set the port speeds on most DSL modems, and "auto negotiate" is not an option on a 1751.

Hello
I have never heard any complaints about modem compatibility with Cisco routers the choice of modem is up to you.
Regards
ps. If you want a cleaner solution you can consider the cisco WIC-1ADSL.

Why use an external DSL modem when you can add a WIC-1ADSL module and perform the DSL termination on the 1751? The 1751 is a bit old now so really you should be looking at 1800's or even 877's if you don't need the modularity.

As for the 1751 not supporting auto-negotiating, I assume you mean the 10/100 Ethernet interface? If that's the case then you are wrong as it does support auto-negotiating of the speed and duplex by default.

I am not sure about IP Base, which is what the user may have. Post a sh ver. I do believe you should be able t0 do this no matter what...
router>en
router#conf t
router(config)#int e0
router(config-if)#duplex auto
router(config-if)#speed auto
router(config-if)#end
router#wr
I also agree with Andy and Minue---you can get a WIC-1ADSL fairly cheap, which is a modular ADSL WAN WIC card for the 1700/2600 series routers, or a C837 or C877 router, or C877W for wireless. These are all adsl routers with the ATM interface built in. I have a 2620XM at home with a WIC-1ADSL and it has been flawless.
