DSL modem takes ages to connect?!?

Hi guys,

I'm totally new to these forums so please forgive me if i'm already asking a question that has been previously covered.

The problem i'm having is that my USB DSL modem seems to take ages to connect! This has come totally out of the blue as it has been working perfectly previously.

Sometimes it will connect first time without any problems at all, whilst other times i have to try 5/6 times because "the remote computer did not respond in a timely manner".

My credentials are as follows -

P4 2.6Ghz
512 RAM
WIN XP PRO SP2
Alcatel USB Modem

(BTW my ISP is BT Openworld and i have the latest drivers installed, have re-installed my O/S and have re-created the connect lots of times)

The provider may need to increase your signal level.

You probably have spyware/adware getting in the way.
Download,install and run Ad-aware and Spybot search & destroy.

Could also be a line problem, Get a check on your phoneline, sometimes these guys come out to install a new account and screw something else up.

Did you try power cycling your modem?
