Ok...I've worked on a couple hundred dsl lines in my time, and all of them have been able to make my tone generator "line detector" light up every time. Just like a regular phone line.

So I've got a SDSL circuit that SBC is telling me it works, however I can't get it to work. They blame my inside wiring , but I've tried multiple pairs, which are good pairs, cause they pass continity checks.

So my question is . How much voltage should be coming through a DSL line? Should my tone generator light be going off on all DSL lines? Or is it just some? Any help greatly appreciated!

I've read on some text books that a -48 v dc is the rated power for phone lines. These voltages makes it possible to ring a phone... it's also called Telco Power for safety..

hope this helps..

I know its 48 v for phone lines. Is it the same for dsl?

My ADSL lines show standard POTS voltages. I do not have an SDSL connection to test, but I would be very surprised if it showed anything different.

I think it's just the same -48vDC, they just get one power source which is the Telephone Company.
