Hi, I just got DSL the day before yesterday from my local Telco. They told me it wouldn't be as fast because im farther out (like 4-5 miles away). according to msn net speed test, pcpitstop net speed test.. I get about 300x70 (paying for 768x256). Downloading, I get about 35kb/s. Ok, it works just find suring and playing games like CS but every like 10 minutes there will be a hugh spike. For instance I will be playing a game and my ping will be a steady 20-30 and then all of a sudden shoot to 500-1000 and jump around like that for a minute or two. I just did a tracert durring one of these occurences and I got this...

On the account of that tracert im thinking its not my connection to the telco but some nodes down the line? If not is there anything I can do to help my connection. I have emailed the Telco, waiting for reply. Thanks.

Do a "Tweak" test from BroadbandReports. There are several factors in play, including whether your settings for RWIN and MTU are correct. Use the DrTCP tool to adjust your client settings. (DrTCP will be referred to you, freeeware, on the site).

My general rule of thumb:

. always complain very nicely
. complain several times but not often early in the new installation
. let it rest
. Use Benchmark results when you have an issue
. Complain again, after you have let it rest, using the benchmarks you have accumulated, and your TOS (Terms of Service) agreement.

I ran that and downloaded DrTCP and its still the same. Still waiting to hear from the telco.
