Hi-
I have a networking question for you pro's out there.... I have Qwest DSL coming in to my office by way of the Cisco 67x modem. I have set it up to operate with NAT and DHCP and have assigned it IP address of 10.0.0.1.

Everything is just fine this way. My router just gets an address from the modem and spreads it out to 20 different computers below my switch.

But I just bought the static IP's and want to put a "public" server on the hub just below my dsl modem on the hub just above my LAN router. I want this server to have a static IP address while still providing DHCP to my LAN.

I cannot seem to have it both ways, when I configure DSL modem to use static IP address at eth0 it works fine for the server above my LAN but my LAN cannot connect. When I configure DSL modem to use dhcp then my static IP server cannot connect but my LAN does fine.

How could I set this up on my network? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

if I under stand the design, you now have to give the WAN side of the router a static address, as the ISP thinks that is what you have. this would still allow the LAN side to be DHCP, as the router itself hands those out. I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

You may be getting into something where you'd need a DSL router with more than one port on the LAN side. The Speedstream 5861 has four "out" ports on the LAN side, and you can configure each port to handle a certain IP address. Thus, you really don't need the hub between the DSL modem and the router.

This is all assuming I understood your question right...

Cisco 67X supports both Static I.P. and DHCP/Nat concurrently natively within the router. If anyone still desires this info, post to this thread.
