DSL is like the superset, generic term used to describe that type of broadband connection. There are many subsets like HDSL and ADSL. In short, ADSL (Asymmetric DSL) has varying dowload and upload speeds usually with the download speed being much greater, hence the asymmetric label.

Now I'm a true believer that there are never any stupid questions, but most folks here appreciate some legwork on your part to find your own answers.
