I am new to Broadband, and just set up with Freeserve Broadband, with a D-Link DSL-200 modem. It seems to be working OK, but if I use the telephone whilst online, the modem disconnects. It has occasionally disconnected at random, but it ALWAYS disconnects when the phone is used. The Freeserve blurb says I should be able to use the phone at the same time. Please help!

Do you have DSL filters on all the extensions that are not the modem? I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Yes, I have filters on all the sockets. I have just found out that if I unplug my internal 56K modem, the DSL modem disconnects and will not re-connect until I plug in the 56K modem again! I have tried restarting the computer with the internal modem lead out, but it will not connect until I plug it in.

bountybar,

Saw this after I responded to the other thread.

What exactly do you mean by unplug? The phone cord? The power cord? Is it USB and you unplug from the USB hub?

Sorry I didn't make it clear. I have my DSL-200 modem, which is USB. I also have an internal 56K modem, to use for faxing. It's when I remove the phone cord from this internal modem that it disconnects.

Is this phone cord on the DSL line and is there a micro-filter on it?

I've sorted it out. Installed a complete new extension from my main phone socket. The old setup was a 4th in line extension from The hallway(1) to the lounge(2) to a bedroom(3) to my shack(4). I think it lost something along the way. I have put filters on all the phones. All OK up to now. Thanks for all your help.
