Hi all, I'm looking for some serious help!
I've got a 20k server running exchange 5.5 SP4.
Now, for some reason the DSAMAIN.EXE (exchange directory service) running, using anywhere between 95% and 100% of the CPU at all times.
This uis causing the backups to take 17 hours instead of 1 and a half, and the exchange GAL not to replicate so the suers are getting old data.
I tried reapplying SP4 to exchange over the weekend, but have come in this morning to find the same problem again.

Any help, massively appreciated.

Cheers

Paul

What level of SP for Win 2000 are you running?
Any Win 2000 hotfixes?
Any exchange hotfixes? (SP4 for Exchange is very old now)
You mention the Exchaneg GAL isn't replicating properly - within site or to other sites? What does your topology look like, and how many servers is this affecting?
When did it stop working properly? What changed?

Hi zbnet.
2k is sp'd to sp4.
I haven't applied any of the hotfixes for exchaneg as far as I know; although I haven't seen them around to be honest.
This is just affecting the 1 site / server, and to be honest I think the replication problems are just due to it not having any cpu to process it with. As soon as kill the dsamain process and restart the service everything returns to normal.
It's been like it a for a few weeks now, nothing as far as our records indicate changed on the server.
I've found a post that says to run a check on the information store (is it called mscheck or something??)
But I assume that reapplying the service pack would have sorted this problem?
cheers for the prompt reply

sorry,. just check ed add/remove programs and there's a "microsoft update Q283238 for ezxchange 5.5" patch

You didn't say about Win2000 hotfixes?
Do you have an Address Book Views in your org?
mscheck isn't anything to do with Exchange.

Hi,sorry for the delay.
There are loads of win2k fixes on there, was there one in particular you were looking for?
I don't really know what you mean, by address book views. sorry.
Any more ideas?

You may just need to run the Exchange optimizer to insure
your Exchange system is running at it's best. ie allocated
disk space etc. Have you insured that your system and users
are virus free? System configured to prevent relaying?
