Hi,
I cannot get a connection through a modem to the switch through DSA. I tested the modem in Hyperterminal and I did receive a log on screen but everytime I tried to login as cust I would get access denied. When I try to connect on GEDI the modem sounds like its connecting then I get an error message Access denied. This is the only software I have available here to use unless I use the SAT in the wiring closet. I have G3Si Ver.6 and I looked through FAC's and tried some of the solutions there such as change modem name to Hayes Optima but no go. The modem is a Robotics 56k fax win int (no error connection). Does anyone have any ideas or success stories setting this up to work?

Thanks !
Tina

make sure your login has permissions to the inads port.

Tina,

I saw your post in the other topic about having avaya turn on inads access on your cust login. Does your cust login have the permissions to add a login? if so just add a login and give it inads access.

I have some trouble with it also. when I use Procom I have no troubles, but using the DSA I get some characters-garbage mostly in the emulation screen.
Anyone getting the same thing? I have tried 3 switched with the same resultes.
I have version R1.5.05 release build oct 7 1999.

make sure you are using 4410 emulation...

Tina, have you ever connected using the DSA software before. If you have try to login manually using the DSA software.

Pois,
The garbage will be because of the mismatch in the baud rate. check the baud rate setting on the definity & on the DSA

No I have not installed DSA before now but I did uninstall it and reinstalled it trying the manual login and it didn't work either so I did the same thing and went back to the secure way. I am going to try to add a login with INADS permission before I call Avaya. I don't know if it will let me create another superuser logon or not, can't hurt to try...I'll let you know how it goes or what I had to do to get it set in case there someone out there in the same boat.

Thanks,
Tina

One other thing might be going on. Do you have a "lock" on the inads port? if so you need the "key" before you can dial into the system. These are the old school security devices ATT used to use. a V6 might still have one. If you dont have the "key" the only solution is to remove the lock.

As i recall these devices look like modems. The lock is in between the 1fb line and the inads modem. Never saw a key we always just took the locks off.

If you are getting garbage or are unable to connect, you might try selecting "analog modem" or "generic 9600". I have often found that some modems don't talk the Definity very well. What usually works is to go to and get the initialization string for your modem and create a new device. For some reason the programmers that wrote ASA also wanted to use their own modem settings instead of using the windows drivers...Needless to say, it's not the best method of communicating with the modem, but you can usually get it to work if you know your initialization string.

Also, if you are connecting to a ProLogix, make sure you have gone through the procedure for setting up the modem on the switch, and your dip switch settings are correct.

This is a success story thanks to you ! Actually I did have two issues, I needed to call the Avaya database to give me remote access on my sign on and they did tell me to use cust. login. It was only $84.00 which isn't too bad (you can't set it up yourself.) The modem finally worked in analog modem setting. The only bad thing is now I won't get the exercise running up and down the stairs to the wiring closet. Thanks for all your help !!!

The reason you only paid $84.00 is because you paid with credit card. Same charge it reset your cust password.
