I have a Digital Station 30B module I am trying to get going and it just has a solid red light

System is a IP 500 V2 R9.0

I have read up quite a bit on this and feel like I've tried everything. I did everything in this thread step by step (can't even tell you how many times):
I feel like I am probably just missing something small and hoping for a little guidance

When I power up the DS30B while pressing escape continuously I am not sure I am stopping the boot but I do see the loader message.. It seems to always stop at a different point for example:

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need any additional info that I haven't provided.

The unit sounds broken

it may be possible to get it to reload its firmware but if it is a new unit I would return it for replacement as an out of box failure

Have you double-checked the firmware release? Since it is a new DS30B, it may need to be downgraded to work on Rel 9.0. If you connect it to the IP Office (as directed), then reboot the DS30B, then reboot the IP Office, do you see it in Manager? If you go to File>Advanced>Upgrade and select the IP Office, is there a line that refers to the DS30B? If so, which release is it? You may have to log in using the newest release of Manager to see it. However, if you actually DO an upgrade/downgrade, make sure you are using the Rel 9.0 with a service pack at or after the one that is on the IP Office.

If you reboot (or power up) any expansion module, and do not reboot the IP Office AFTERWARD, the IP Office may not recognize it.

I hope that helps... Good luck

Thanks to technology, we can instantly communicate across the world, but it still doesn't help us know what to say.

It is not a brand new unit.. It is a decommissioned unit from a company that went out of business.

We actually received a few of them and they're all doing the same thing and that's why I believe it be something I'm missing on my end and not a faulty unit/units. We goofed and forgot the DS30B only works on 9.0 (some 8.1) and better and initially hooked them up to a unit here that is at 7.0 and I think that is what has caused them to go red.

@kampling I didn't see it in the manager yesterday however I only checked there once and may have not done the correct power sequence before checking that time so I will check again.

I still don't see the DS30B in manager.

Here's what I've done:
- Create an offline config.. System in Standard mode, Combo card slot 1, DS30B expansion 1
- Load configuration to system
- Reload Essential License
- Save, Reboot and power down
- Connect DS30B to expansion port 1 on IP500v2
- Connect to com port on DS30B.. Set putty speed 38400, data bits 8, stop bits 1, parity none, flow control xon/xoff.. then power up the DS30B while pressing escape continuously
- Power on IP 500
- Set TFTP server IP 192.168.42.10 (my computer with manager)
- BootP enabled and has IP500 mac address and IP 192.168.42.1, under filename is has ip500vs_se.bin
- Under preferences BootP and TFTP Servers box is checked
- Under Directories both Working & Binary have "C:\Program Files (x86)\Avaya\IP Office\Manager"
- Open TFTP Log
- Go back to putty and press AT-X

And I am getting the same message as above in putty. I don't see "erase message and will show a TFTP Poll message" and I don't see anything happening under the TFTP log

Is there something I am missing?

if you are using a V2 then the Expansion module should get the firmware form the SD card

Make sure you have the correct settings in system (FTP Server Http Server & File server type)

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

Okay.. What should those settings be? Should I have the TFTP & HTTP server IP set to the address of the 500v2 or of my PC? And PC IP set to my PC that has manager I assume?

Phone File Server Type Custom or Memory Card, HTTP Redirection Off or Phone Binaries?

Also.. Should Security TFTP Directory Read/Write be checked under Security Settings > Unsecured Interfaces > Applications Controls > TFTP Directory Read

Thanks for your help!

None of the above. All those are to do with phones and applications getting files. Expansion modules talk direct to the IP Office only.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Use the unit as a step up in the kitchen and buy a new one.
Or send it to Avaya for repair.
Each hour spend on trying to get it up and going is a waste of time and money.

@intrigrant.. You are the one who originally posted the step by step instructions I am following so hoping you can give a little more assistance than trash these.

What do the TFTP, HTTP, PC IP, & Phone File Server Type need to be set at? Do you see anything else that I could possibly be missing?

looks like you have done all that makes sense and it seems that the unit is just broken.

Happens that a unit sits on the shelf and worked when taken out but doesn't come back when re-commissioned for duty.
We had 2 this week that did the same thing.

All of the units were flashing green yesterday until I hooked them up to the 7.0 and they flickered for a while presumably a firmware “upgrade” and ultimately went red which is where they stand now. 4 of them doing the same exact thing again why I don’t think it’s a hardware issue.

Just looking for a little guidance on the last few settings with the TFTP, HTTP, & Phone File Server Type to at least try because I feel like I’m just not pointing something in the right direction to see the files it needs to download.

All i wanted to say is that if you tried everything then the uit is permanently broken and cannot be recovered.
Just replace it, send the broken unit in for repair and let it go.

I understand but what I’m saying is I don’t know if I’ve done everything. There’s some steps that aren’t completely clear and if someone is able to provide me with the details, then I’d like to give them a try.

I don’t think the expansion is seeing the main unit because I’m not putting the right info in one of the fields.

R7.0 has no bin files for the 30B or 16B so the unit would not have downgraded but just ignored the system release difference and tried to work with whatever it had.
