DS30 Split change from 2/6 to 3/5

One of my branch offices is reaching the maximum number of IP sets the BCM will accommodate with a 2/6 split. I think we are down to just a couple signaling channels at this point. Later this year they will be adding 10 employees. I need to change the system to a 3/5 split.

I've tested this on my lab system and learned that nearly all of the system configuration is reset to the system default once you switch from 2/6 to 3/5 or vice versa. Is there a way to use a backup of the system to restore the configuration while maintaining the DS30 split? None of the restore options seem to allow me to keep the new DS30 split...

Any ideas?

You can go from a 2/6 to a 3/5 without losing programming. I've done it a handful of times. Anything that is programmed on bus 7 needs to be moved first. If you've got a PRI configured on bus 7, move it to bus 6 before you make the change.

However, you cannot go from 3/5 to 2/6 without losing data.

Agree with Biv. The only issue I ran into, was the IP sets came up after the split, w/o all the Call P/U Groups working.I figured out some of the people got on their telephones before they all came up. I recommend doing after hours, then before. btw, a reboot fixed it.

I'm retesting this on the lab system right now. I'm almost certain the system prompted me with the "Telephone data will be reset" message when I changed the DS30 split from 2/6 to 3/5. I really hope you guys are right, that would make my life much easier!

Thanks!

It prompts you but only if you go backwards will you lose programming. Nortel is famous for that.

Here is what I just tested on the lab system.

Changed from 3/5 to 2/6. As everyone asserted, the telephony programming was reset. After rebooting the BCM, I configured one IP set (DN 300).

Next, I changed the split from 2/6 to 3/5. Upon reading the prompt more carefully, I noticed it says telephony data will be reset when when changing from 3/5 to 2/6 (even though that is not the change I was making).

DN 300 went offline after the change. I rebooted the BCM and DN 300 reregistered without issue.

Fantastic! Thanks everyone!
