I am looking for some advice from those with experience with DS3 Mux's. We have used a Carrier Access Widebank 28 mux for about 3 years now. We seem to lose a controller each year at the wrong time. Are we using a poor choice? Bad install? Anything better out there? Is there a better forum for this question? Any help appreciated!!

The more I learn the more I find I know nothing.

We use a lucent dms2000 oc3 mux and have not had a problem in 5 years. This gives 3 ds1 circuits that can be broken down into 84 t1 circuits

The Adtran Atlas 800 is bulletproof. It even comes with a 5 year warrenty. In addition to being a 3/1/0 DACS, it provides some other dialplan, BRI, FXS/FXO, VOIP, and voice compression goodies as well. 96 channels from host PBX -> Adtran 800 -> 24 channel tie line <- Adtran 800 <- 96 channels from remote PBX.

Older Widebank 28's did not have the fans attached to the front panel, causing them to overheat. The newer editions have a few fans to keep the T2 cards cool. We even had a normal house fan on the old ones to keep the temperature in the room cool!

ADC Kentrox painted their name on Carrier Access Widebank 28's. They provided power supplies with these that had no power regulation. This caused our controllers to fail about every 6 months. Finally after squeezing the info out of Carrier Access we replaced the power supplies with the newer models having regulation (they have battery backup connection.) We have not had a problem since. We also have a large fan mounted on the back of our rack mount to keep the mux cool. Bad design but sounds like they have repented and re-designed after having to replace so many defective units under warranty.

Forums rule, pass it on!!!
