Running several servers with Netware 5 SP6a running DS 7.51 and am planning upgrade to DS 7.58. There is one server locally that holds all of the master replicas of the tree. Should this one be done first? Also, what are some other tips as far as the upgrade itself? Are there issues?

Thank you for the help.

Are there other NetWare Servers that hold R/W or R/O replicas of the Tree? Also, you will want to make a backup of NDS on this Server... before you begin.

You should always start any DS related upgrades with the Master.

Good Luck!

Yes we have other severs with R/W replicas etc. I was thinking the master had to be done first...thanks. We are running queue based and NDPS printing, any issues with that? My window of downtime to do this is very small to get this done so any other info you have would be great.

Thanks

You may want to make sure that DS is completely clean before you begin. Check for stuck Obituaries, TimeSync issues, etc... Its best to do these kind of upgrade with DS as healthy as it can be.

BTW... Have you ever run a DSMAINT "Prepare NDS for Hardware Upgrade" before? This will make a BACKUP.DS file in the SYS:SYSTEM directory. When you run this procedure, it literally will "suck" NDS off of the Server, create the BACKUP.DS file and close the DS Database. Once you have done this step, just go to the next DSMAINT selection... "Restore NDS after Hardware Upgrade". This will re-establish and open the NDS Database. Now you can copy the BACKUP.DS file from the SYS:SYSTEM Directory.

We use this procedure whenever we are about to do any major changes to any of our Servers. It makes recovering from problems a bit easier.

Good Luck!
