i have a linksys wireless g notebook adaptor wpc54g v2 with a linksys wrt54 v5 router. have 2 computers hooked up downstairs with cables but my laptop upstairs will not establish a constant connection. it will connect for 2 seconds have excellent signal then disconnect for 10 seconds then connect again for 2 seconds. it is a never ending cycle. please any help would be greatly appreciated

Is either laptop near the router, or in the path between the router and the laptop? That nearby signal will swamp the weaker signal from the laptop.

If the laptop is pretty much directly over the routeer, move one of the router's antennas so it's horizontal. That may help get some signal from overhead. (Monopole antennas are most sensitive at right angles to the length of the antenna.)
