Dropping Calls after 2 rings after a power outage

I have a two box Partner system that suffered a power outage (local utility). After the power recovered, I had lost Voicemail, and many other system settings/processes were wacked out. I reset the ports on the Hunt Group 7, and got the voicemail back up and running. The only "critical" issue remaining is that incoming calls are dropped after the first ring or two, if not answered quickly enough. If someone picks up the line immediately, the call can be handled normally (transferred, placed in voicemail etc). But if not, the caller will hear a buzzing (rotary type tone) and then the call is dropped. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Sounds like the AA is picking up after 2 rings. Question is why is it making that noise and dropping the call when it works normally otherwise. What VM are you using?

Go into the VM administration and make sure that the menu is still there and that the dial zero/ timeout action is not set to disconnect. Check to see that anything you have connected for music or messaging on hold is still working.

two box Partner system" - is that a Partner II? Are you using ASA or DXD? I have seen the messages get scrambled and/or erased. Calls get answered by "static" or silence. Re-record the message, and all will be OK.

you probably need to replace the battery in the processor
as to the dropped calls

does it happen on all lines ? have you tired calling each line sepratley ?

does vm work ok on intercom calls ?

Thanks all for helping - I'm a novice at this, so i appreciate the help.

Once again, the symptom is that incoming calls initially hear a normal ring, then quickly go to a low puttering sound like a fast low rotary signal. Some stay connected, but you have to punch line buttons to "find" the call since the light doesn't stay lit. Other calls drop.

In answer to your suggestions:

- I made sure the timeouts are not set to disconnect.
- No music on hold is being used.
- Voicemail is working fine, for calls that aren't dropped.
- ASA not being used, nor is DXD
- I tried each line separately calling in, and it happens on all the lines.
- I tried unplugging incoming lines from the Partner system one at a time, and no improvement.

Here's a little more about the hardware: We have two carriers (primary and expansion). The slots are occupied as follows:

Primary:

Partner ACS 206E R3.1
Partner 206 R4.1
Partner II Processor Module R4.1
Partner 206EC Module R4.1
Partner 206EC Module R4.1

Expansion:

Partner II 400EL Module R3.1
Partner PartnerMail VS R3.0
Partner Expansion Processer R3.1
Partner 206E Module R4.1

Thank you!

Lars

Do you have a FAX machine, connected as a station? Set to answer on 2 rings, and set to the "FAX/TEL" mode? Answers, doesn't detect CNG tone, and provides fake "ringback" tone while ringing the handset?

I would unplug ALL stations, bring a display phone back to the control unit, and plug it in as Ext. 10. Then make your test calls. Maybe even disconnect the lines themselves to make sure something connected ahead of the system is not answering.

Anyway, it it works properly with only the one extension pluggd in, then reconnect the extensions one at a time, and keep testing until you find whatever is answering.

Everyone loves a good mystery!

Touch Tone, Skip and HBiss:

Thanks again for your help. I checked with SBC to see if it was an outside line problem, and the SBC tech gave me a friendly "I'm not supposed to do this..." recommendation for a retired employee who works on systems. I called him up, and within a half day he'd come to see it, troubleshot it, and got it all working fine.

The problem was a 206E module that had a bad incoming line port. We switched it with another module that was just being used for extensions (no incoming lines plugged in), and the whole system works fine now.

Here's the funniest part: his invoice to me was $80. I wrote the check for $120 and built a shrine to him.

Thanks to you guys for the help also - looks like it was a hardware problem!

Lars

thanks for letting us know how it turned out

{quote]his invoice to me was $80. I wrote the check for $120 [/quote] I love it when customers do that

I just got a free pass for a foursome with cart at a golf course customer. I prefer this to a shrine anyday! Also, $80 is really cheap, we charge $142.50/ hr for emergency service if they can not wait to be scheduled. We do give very reasonable rates on maint. or service contracts though. Anyone want to share their emergency service rates?
