Dropped index, erroneous data?...

IN Oracle 8.3 we dropped an index (in error) and some of the reports that run off the particular table (written in Crystal 8.5) appear to be missing records. When the index was restored, things seem to be fine in our data warehouse.

Depending how the index is used, is it possible for Oracle to miss records in a table when the index is dropped? (About 10% were missed).

Our other working theory is that the query ran so long, Oracle timed out, but Crystal simply thought it was finished and produced a shorter report.

Any experience/tips or references welcome.

There was a bug in 7.3 on UnixWare that lead in some cases to extra records FALSELY returned if using index. Unfortunately I do not know how Crystal processes errors
