Kind of a newbie, but I'm getting the hang of these Norstar systems. This is my first post - thanks in advance for helping out.

Just recently reconfigured our Norstar/Startalk system so all calls are picked up by AA right away (zero rings), with an option to hit zero to get to the operator. All of a sudden, our operator is getting MANY calls which are completely dead. Seems like every time someone hangs up for whatever reason, the line just hangs for a while and then eventually the operator's phone rings with no one on the line.

1) Why the large number of dropped calls? I don't know why so many people would be calling and then hanging up.
2) Any way to stop the AA from calling the operator with these dead calls?

Couldn't find anything in past threads....hopefully, I didn't miss something.

Thanks!

What kind of KSU/ Software are you using? Let me know and I will post the exact place to look.

Check your Trunk Mode. It should be set to Super. Which allows Disconnect Supervision, when someone drops the line then the system will disconnect the call and free the line.

Can't explain the dropped calls but at least it won't call the Operator.

Thanks for the quick response.

My KSU/software - MDR5 ENG/SP (including DR5.1)

I'm pretty sure this is old stuff, no?

Just checked the trunk mode. They're all set to Unspr so I guess I should change that. How else will that affect my system?

This forum is just what I needed.

you need to make sure that the CO actually provides disconnect supervision, and then make the change to super ...

what is happening could be, people hangup, voicemail still holds the call (lack of disconnect supervision) and on no repsonse transfers to the attendant ,... which is actually a disconnected call.

make sure your trunk cards/ KSU support disconnect supervision (they will be labelled with "DS")

Thanks for the posts. I'm actually on the phone with XO Comm right now. Turns out they need to set it up on their end. So hopefully it'll be up and running w/in 24 hours.

this is 4th or 5th time i'm hearing about XO ...they bring in a T1/ channl bank and turnoff supervision by default
