Dropdown List showing Empty

Hi,
I am populating my dropdown box thru peoplecode. It is taken from PSXLATITEM. The field which one i selected for the dropdown box is not a required field. But i m validating this as required field thru peoplecode (For my business scneario). But it is showing one empty value in drop down box. Is there any possibility to remove that empty value from my dropdown list?. (Any value in the list should not defaulted).
