I have been using Dropbox between my laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium and my desktop running Windows XP service pack 3 for about six months with no problems. Yesterday I turned on the desktop and got a message from Threat Fire that something needed attention, so I clicked "block." Then I realized my link to Dropbox would not work. I tried all the icons to no avail.
I uninstalled Dropbox and tried to install the newest version, but the install stopped about halfway through the process. I tried the older version 2.0.22 which is on my laptop, but it did the same thing. Each time Threat Fire said something was wrong, but this time, I clicked "allow process to continue," but the install stopped again.
I restarted the computer in Safe Mode and did the install. Now the software works, but not from any of the desktop shortcuts or the All Programs icon, only from the tray icon on the lower right menu bar. A menu pops up and allows me to click a Dropbox folder link. It appears and works, but I am confused at what changes have occurred.
I have made no changes to Threat Fire that I can remember. However, I did a clean up and disk fragmentation a few weeks ago.
Any ideas? I can live with it the way it is, but I am curious.
