...it is recommended you place native .ai files in indesign rather than eps wherever possible, saving with pdf compatability (on by default)...
...does the dropshadow have a spot colour underneath in the ai file, any background at all? You may find you need a background colour that matches the indesign background or save as native .ai and place this instead...
...if it's a process job, convert the spot colour to process before saving out of illustrator, ensure the flattener slider is all the way to the right if saving to eps, otherwise save to native .ai and let indesign fo the flattening (recommended)...
...in illustrator ensure the raster effects settings are set to 300dpi or higher, anti-alias, preserve spots and transparent background are helpful to have on too...
...if exporting to 1.4 pdf or higher from indesign, your rip needs to be able to handle these files and flatten transparency in the rip, otherwise export fron indesign as 1.3 pdf and flatten the transparency with the slider all the way to the right (as for illustrator above)...
...eps files in indesign show up with a white background unless you have your display options set to high...
Thanks, Andrew. I did have them use the native .ai and it worked. Just wondered since it didn't occur in the printed test from all computers in the department.
