Drop menu not working

Hi

Has anyone managed to get the "Display Values from this field" and "Submit values from this field" working within the Database Results Wizard (Drop Down List option).

I'm struggling to get it to work and my suspicion is that the "Submit Values" option isn't functioning correctly.

I have an Access Query that I reference through the ASP Page. The query links 4 tables together, and I was hoping to have a drop down menu with options to a Team Name. This option would then only display associated data.

Things work fine if I have the ID of the Team Name (without the Team Name itself) populating the list, but as soon as I swap the ID for the actual Team Name the query stops working?

Any ideas or pointers?

So you are using the DRW and populating a drop down menu with the values from 2 different fields, correct?

And you want the user to select one of those values from the menu and for the page to refresh with data relevant to the value they selected from the drop down - basically using the drop down menu as a filter or sort for the database results on the page?

Tiffany,

First, thanks for the reply.

You are right with what you say. Using DRW to populate a menu with team names, which are the contents of a field, and their associated ID (incidentially FP only displays one field in the menu - I assume this is correct, although Access allows you to display many columns in a single drop down)

Once the user click submit it should filter the database results based on the ID submitted.

Try as I might, I can't get it to work with the team name in the menu - if I just have the ID in the menu it works OK.

Cheers

What you should try is this. Assuming that the ID only matters for sorting/filtering and not something that you must have showing in the drop down menu:

In the DRW, where you are asked to select or deselect the fields to use for the DRW, make sure that you have at least the Name field and the ID field in this list.
Then try setting the DRW drop down menu so that the Name Value submits as the ID value.

I have used the DRW to create a database result field, and used a drop down menu just like you are. The one I did had 2 field values showing in the menu: Firstname and Lastname... but the results of the folter by drop down menu are sorted by the Lastname value only. The way I did this was to create the drop down menu with the DRW as described above except that I only entered Lastname as the field to display and finished the DRW. Then I went into the code and manually added the code for the firstname   to show in the drop down.
