Drop down menu when over a button

Hi!

I am trying to create a menu that only appears when the mouse pointer goes over a button and dis-appears when the mouse moves off the button. Obviously, when the menu is visiable, I want to be able to select one of the options in the menu.

How do I do that? I am only a learner at the moment, so please explain in detail (dummy terms), thanks.
