Drop down list - without select button

Can I display the results of a drop down list without the need for clicking on a button, so when you change the values in the drop down the associated records appear?

I know it is possible as there are lots of sites with this on, but can't figure out how to do it

use onchange=document.submit()in the <Select> tag
