I have created a drop down list in excel 97 to restrict entry to a fixed set of values. This restriction works fine as long as the user either uses the mouse to select a value from the drop down, or the user manually types in a value. The problem is that the user can use copy and paste to put what ever value he wants into the cell while by-passing the validation. How can I prevent the user from side-stepping the validation with copy and paste?

Hi,

"How can I prevent the user from side-stepping the validation with copy and paste?"

Assuming that you are using Data > Validation, - LIST, nothing without VBA code, to assure that a PASTE will not defeat your validation.

Skip,

I am using Data > Validation - List. I am not apposed to VBA code. What do you suggest? Does the pasting trigger any events?

Paste fires the Worksheet Change event.

Please post your question in Forum707, to pursue a VBA solution.
