drop down boxes colouring 1

you will see I have examples of drop down boxes. These are totally spoilt because I cannot colour the link button (not sure of its correct name but you cant miss it its the only grey thing left). Does anyone know the correct name for that button and how do I get it coloured please

That's controlled by windows system colours. It cannot be changed by normal CSS or javascript but a signed script that the user has to give access to might change the colour?

There is very little you can do to a select box, as it is a windowed control. If you only need to support IE, take a look at, my friend's select box:
