I have Acrobat 6 standard running under XP Professional SP1. I create documents in Ventura and then print them to pdf via distiller. Some paragraphs begin with a 2-line drop cap using a Ventura tag created for the purpose. The pdf shows most of these correctly but, oddly, in some of them the initial cap has dropped four or more lines, distorting the following text. Any idea why, and why only some of the paragraphs are affected? All look OK in Ventura.

Ventura is old. Acrobat keeps updating. Ventura probably uses coding that is old that won't read properly in Acrobat.

Word of advice, get out of Ventura, the software is dead. Another word of advice, don't use drop caps. Awful.

Merry Christmas.

Thank you but you don't explain why Acrobat would treat some instances correctly and others not so. The postscript laqnguage is identical in both cases.

The reason I didn't is because I don't have an answer for you. It's probably the way it's laid out in Ventura. I wouldn't be able to tell you unless I looked at the Ventura files.

I'm sorry I don't have a more definitive answer for you.

...postcript can be dependant on a PPD used, Ventura users have describe it's output as a bit if a pig to achieve, this link refers to Acrobat 5, but you may find it worth trying to create a new PS Driver with a new PPD...

...if no success, you can try to email Corel to see if they still offer support for Ventura...

...problems with postscript printing can be difficult to diagnose, another area to check for are duplicate fonts both TrueType and Type 1 on the problem pages, try just printing the problem pages independently with a different font as a test...

...ensure you don't have too many fonts installed too as this can hinder operating performance...
