I have a Western Digital 160GB External drive (model: WD1600B011-RNN). I hooked it up and it has around 149GB of free space but it will only allow about 20gb before it says its out of disk space. Why is that?

It's hooked up via firewire and it came with the Retrospect software, however I am trying to transfer directly to it. Either by saving a large file from my video editing software or by transfering a file directly from another drive. Either way, it's acting like it's full and it should have a good 120+ GB of free space. Anyone know how I can fix this?

Its a...

Dual Option Backup
USB 2.0/FireWire
USB 2.0 Hub
8MB Cache
160 GB

On Win XP home.

Try reformatting the drive (fine to choose the "quick" option). Choose NTFS.

And in case you're wondering, 149GB is the correct amount for an "advertised" 160GB drive.
