On Booting Windows 98 the system freezes and gives the message "Detecting IDE Drives..." and sounds 2 beeps. I have to use Rescue Disk to restart. All is OK for a while and then it happens again. Any ideas please?
Many thanks

2 beeps indicates Parity circuit failure, which in most cases has to do with faulty system memory. Try reseating the memory and booting the system again. If it still persists and assuming you have multiple memory modules installed try booting the system with each one on it's own. If the problems still persists ensure that the speed of your memory is supported by your motherboard. Lastly try some new memory. Let me know how it turns out.

Many thanks for your help.I shall try these ideas.
