Help!

I recently attempted to upgrade a Win95 PC to Win98. Half way through installation Windows reported corrupt files on the CD and so I was forced to abort the upgrade.

The PC stills boots into Win95 and is fine except from the fact that I cannot print. I am being told that the LTP1 port can not be contacted. I have replaced the printer cable and tried a different printer but had no luck.

The motherboard on the PC has 26 pins to connect the printer port, but every 'old/unused' printer port I can find laying around the office has a 25 pins connector therefore will not fit on the 26 pin connection as 1 'hole' is covered.

As this has happened during the attempted upgrade I have now decided to lok at reinstalling thwe drivers for the LPT1 port. However I do not know where to find them.

Can anyone help?

Sorry for the long post!

There are no specific drivers that you can find. You should remove the part in the device manager and it will reload the drivers on the next boot if th OS finds the port.

Are you confusing a 26 pin (2x13) header strip with a DB25S parallel port connector? Diferent spacing, different pins, and are not interchangable.

The parallel port identification and driver software is independent of the output cable and the drivers will load whether the cable is installed or not. You need to look in the CMOS settings to see if the parallel port is enabled.

Thank you for your response.

The problems I am having is reinstalling the Printer Port. I am running Win95 but it asks me for a Win98 CD. When I insert the CD and click OK I am told that file lpt.vxd is not on the CD.

I'm sure that during the failed upgrading to Win98, there is a conflict somewhere is blocking me from using the LPT port.

If it is a conflict between Win95 and the failed installation of Win98 will it involve a reinstallation of Win95 to 'put things right'?

Yes, it is time for a re-install. Or probably better, a re-install of 98.
