We have a newly-purchased PowerPC Mac G5 running OS X 10.4.7, set up in a Windows 2003 Active Directory network. We have a color HP DeskJet 9800 printer installed on, and shared from, a Windows XP Pro (with SP2) computer. The Mac needs to be able to print to that printer, and I have adjusted the necessary security settings to allow it to do so.
I downloaded and installed the latest version of the printer's drivers from HP's website, but when I connect to the shared printer, the driver for that printer is not available in the list. When I try to print using one of OS X's recommendations (either Generic Postscript or the GIMP driver for the DeskJet 995C), the printouts are error messages similar to:
%%Error: undefined, OffendingCommand: undef]%%
I was able to successfully install and use 2 networked Canon printers, connected to a different Windows computer (and using the manufacturer-supplied drivers).
Does anyone know how I can fix this? I am relatively new to OS X, so I don't know where it stores driver files (and haven't had any luck trying to manually point to them when installing the printer). Thanks!
