Hello everyone!

Have PS4 Farm / Win2003 Svrs.
I have a client that connects from home thru Web Interface/CSG to my Farm.

Client has a HP Photosmart 2570 Printer locally attached. I have the driver replicated to all PS4 Svrs. His account is configured to connect local printers...

Won't work???
Any suggestions? What am I missing here?

The driver on his PC says "HP Photosmart 2570 series"
Do I need to set the mapping in CMC?

Many Thanks!
Brandon

Why not use the Citrix Universal Printer that's built-into PS4, and is available for use if you have Win32 ICA Client 9.x. You need to enable the printing options via Citrix Policy.

If you do this, you won't need a driver for this printer, or most others on the terminal server.

I use this all the time with my Photosmart 8100 at home and it works great.

Thanks Patrick-
You bring up a great point... I'd love to figure out why the following service doesn't start on startup:

Citrix Print Manager Service

The service is configured to run/start with the local Admin credentials... Never starts after a reboot(?)

THIS SERVICE ON ALL OF MY PS4 SERVERS (22) IS NOT STARTING! Would this prevent the Universl Print Driver from working?

How would I configure the user's printer to use the Universal Print Driver?

My biggest question is the last- how to configure this...

MANY MANY THANKS Patrick!!

Brandon

Another note...

My user at home is not using ICA Clent x.x He's coming in through WebInterface/CSG (w/ web the web client).... So, does this prevent the Universal Print Driver from working??

Thanks!

So update the ICA Client that's distributed with the Web Interface to version 9.15.

When did this prblem with the "Citrix Print Manager Service" start, i.e. after an upgrade from another version of Citrix?

If this isn't working, then you'll not be printing to client printers.

Problem started with first roll out- NOT an upgrade. However, I do image/clone my servers. LONG WEEKEND! I built the first one and cloned from it. So, not sure exactly when it happened. Is there a fix?

When you say "Update the ICA Client that is distributed w/ Web Interface to ver..." Are you referring to the Web Client? I am using WI 3.0.

My 600 users get connnected to their printers via a vbs that I have written (simple script that connects them to a network printer inside their session (published desktop).

Thanks!!!

Brandon

The version of the WI has no relation to the version of the ICA Client, so you can update the ICA Client version that is stored on your web server and users will download this version when they connect.

Did you clone the servers with PS4 installed? If so, the you'll have a lot of cleanup to do, as the Citrix Service Accounts will all need to be updated, along with the DCOM Configuration permissions.

Did you not do a test, then pilot?

Yes- I have used this same cloning method with XPe with no problems whatsoever. Now that I have done this w/ PS4, this seems to be the only issue- (svc not starting)...

Are you saying that the UNIVERSAL PRINT DRIVER will not work w/out this svc starting? I saw a CTX doc on re-configuring the DCOM permissions, etc. Don't recall where it was...

PATRICKROUSE- Question:

What are the reasons a printer won't map? The only things I can think of are:

1. The driver is not installed on the server;
2. Wrong printer mapping (wrong syntax)

I have made a mapping for "HP Photosmart 2570 series" and I have it mapped to use the Citrix Universal Printer driver. ANd my end user STILL can't see his locally attached printer- Can anyone think of why??

Many thanks!!!

enable map print drivers before the application are run that will ensure printers are map.

I have about the same problem with printer mapping:
PS4 Farm with 5 Win2003 Servers.
Since I added 2 additional Server by cloning one of the existing the auto creation of local printers doesn't work on this 2 servers. It still works fine for the "not cloned machines".
By connecting through RDP instead of ICA the mapping functions correctly.
It doesn't depend on the printer drivers cause tey are the same on all servers.
Anyone have an idea?

Your user at home does he/she had ICA client installed on the machine? If not it's more likely that he's using Java client, get him to install the most recent java Runtime Environment from
With the Java client, the printers are mapped (I think) but not auto created. If it's the same case as mine the user will get the Citrix WI page and can login to see the applications. When connectong to an application he'll see the Citrix connection Centre at the top left of his page.
If he clicks 'Settings' He'll be able to select 'Printer Mapping'. If all is well (with the most recent JRE above)
He should see his printer(s) listed in there where he can chose to add one.

He only has to do this once on the same computer and he might have to logout and log back in again. His printer should now be there everytime he connects.

I hope this is relevent.

The cloning method is different for PS4, and is outlined in the Advanced Concepts guide, i.e. clone before installing PS4, then install PS4 after the image is deployed and the server has been assigned a new name and SID. PS4 can be installed after all of your client applications.
