Hi all,

I need a driver for a HP LaserJet 4200 printer on my AIX. Does anyone have an idea where I could find a unix driver, AIX driver, whatever. I am currently am using the preinstalled driver for the HP LaserJet 4000. This does work but would like to find and use the correct driver.

Thanks to all that help.

What sort of printing are you doing?

When you are asked to select the printer when setting up the queue device, what you're choosing isn't a driver, at least not in the traditional sense. In AIX it's called a virtual printer, and it's purpose is to manage the capabilities of the printer. It knows the proper escape codes or job control commands to place the printer in Postscript mode when sending a job from a Postscript queue, it knows how to translate a text file sent to a PCL queue, and so on.

In, for instance, Windows, the printer driver model allows applications to "draw" to a graphical context in much the same way it does to the screen (draw line for A to B, place text in this font at postion D,E...etc). The printer driver is then responsible for translating that context into something the printer can understand.

AIX does not use this sort of driver model.

Short answer: If your queues are working, which you say they are, then the virtual printer definition you selected IS correct.
