I have a 40 GB drive that has Windows 2000 Pro as it's operatining system in it. I took it from a working computer and tried to put it into my second computer to replace a smaller (now full) drive that has Win 98 in it.
I get the BSOD telling me it can't find a bootable disk, asking to run chkdsk /f, virus checks and the like.
I don't want to reformat this disk since it has all my programs and a lot of files in it. It is a WD40GB and I did put the jumper in to make it the master since there is another drive in it.
The goal is to network these two with software that allows them to back up each other.
How do I get past the BSOD?

Since you've changed computers, you have changed the HAL as well and win2k does not llike that as you've noticed. Your best bet is to boot from your win2k cd or your boot disks and "repair" the installation. This should force 2k to detect current hardware configuration and load the proper drivers.

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - Q249694 outlines this procedure. It works!
