Running WIN-98. A hard drive [the only one] is failing [probably]. I want to replace it, and my idea is to add a child drive, then copy the entire original drive to it [failing area is NOT where any data is]. Now, remove the master drive and make the new one the master. What is wrong, if anything, with this scenario, and what is the 'correct' way to copy [mirror?] the entire main drive??

Very common procedure...

Most new hard drives, if you buy the retail version, should come with utility to assist you. This utility can handle copying the contents of one drive to another for you.

If one doesn't come with your new drive, you might be able to pick one up for free at Maxtor's website or search for one at
