Have a Dell X1 Laptop that recognizes an HP CD Writer External USB connected CD drive when Windows is launched but is not seen when the BIOS is set to recognize that same drive when I need to change the boot order. Is there a different drive that is needed for the boot to recognize? Guidance sought

External USB connected CD drive"

that is the problem... look for any USB settings that you find, e.g. USB LEGACY and enable them, also check under REMOVABLE DEVICES in the BIOS...

since I am not familiar with the X1's BIOS, I can only give general information, sorry...
